Brass Scale Squamata (Scale Armour) with Double pteruges
Brass Scale Squamata (Scale Armour) with Double pteruges
The Roman Squamata V is one of the decorative pieces of Armor in which a combination of scales is used to get a beautiful pattern. The Squamata is also commonly known as the scale armor and is made by attaching multiple small scales together and then stitching the armor on top of a backing cloth. The scales are connected using steel/brass wire and to protect the body of the user, the assembly is stitched to a thick fabric. Some historians and enthusiasts also have an opinion that the scale armor is an extension design to the mail armor.
